Subj: ExCom Memo

For the benefit of the non-e-mailers receiving this, this mailing contains two booklets with material I have sent to the e-mail list
lately. The same day I picked up the first booklet from the printer I received my copy of Vidya #172, the election issue.

Unfortunately, there were some errors made in the way the election was presented in Vidya, making it necessary to redo it. The decision of the Ombudsman and the Elections Officer is contained in Phil Frandina's message of this date (exhibited on page 11 of this second booklet).

It's unfortunate that we've had two false starts in a row but we'll do everything we can to ensure that thing are done right when we redo the election.

I am pleased that members on the e-mail list were able to carry on a discussion of the problems with the election in a civil and nonpartisan way. May this spirit of cooperation continue as we elect a new set of officers to lead the society for the next two years.

Those who wish to understand the tumultuous events of the past year are directed to the lengthy transcripts of correspondence regarding TNS organizational affairs in the process of being made available on our web site [old URL omitted; the current TNS website is at http://www.triplenine.org].

Please study the issues, the candidacy statements (which will be reprinted in Vidya #173), the transcripts, and anything else you need to make informed decisions on the candidates and on whatever amendments qualify for the ballot by receiving the signatures of at least the square root of the membership.

Kevin Langdon, Regent
