Annual Meeting Discussion Topics

Kevin Langdon

At the Triple Nine Society Annual Meeting in October 1996, a number of people suggested disussion topics, then we took a poll of those present to determine which subjects the group wanted to discuss.

We eventually talked about all the topics that received more than one vote. Here are the topics and the number of votes for each:

Planetary science: 5

The dumbing down of America: 3

What would your ideal society be?: 3

The space station: 3

The financial value of life: 3

Solving the drug problem: 2

Media manipulation: 2

The mind/body problem: can science resolve it?: 1

Public funding of basic research: 1

Brain waves and thought: 0

Mathematics: 0

The Bell Curve: race and intelligence: 0

The zero for the last topic probably reflects the fact that there had already been a considerable amount of discussion of this general area by the time the vote was taken.
